The Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) is one of the most influential business advocacy groups in California. The organization targets the key issue areas of Energy & EnvironmentHousing & Transportation, and Economic Development, supporting all of its advocacy initiatives through the academic research of the LABC Institute.

Urban One co-authored a report, Building Livable Communities – Enhancing Economic Competitiveness in Los Angeles, for the LABC Mayoral Housing, Transportation and Jobs Summit held on October 4th, 2012. Authored in partnership with Professor Paul Habibi of the UCLA Anderson School of Business and Grayslake Advisors, Urban One provided research and authoring support on this pivotal report. Focused on how Los Angeles’ growing network of public transit infrastructure can be utilized to expand the developable footprint for housing and jobs-producing uses, accommodating the needs of a growing workforce and improving the region’s economic competitiveness, the Building Livable Communities report served as the focal point for the academics, business representatives, and policymakers in attendance at the Summit. Other speakers included California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Antionio Villaraigosa, who both emphasized the importance of the continued investment of both the public and private sectors in Los Angeles’ transit infrastructure and housing development.
